Demetrius Soupolos, of Stuttgart, Germany, is sterile; so he decided to pay a neighbor, Frank Maus, a father of two, to impregnate his wife. After seventy-two attempts over a six-month period — Maus and Frau Soupolos went about this the old-fashioned way — she still hadn’t conceived; so Soupolos threatened to sue Maus for breach of contract.
And here’s where the story gets weird…
Soupolos insisted that Maus undergo a medical examination, and it was determined that he’s sterile as well. Those two kids of his? “I have a confession to make,” Maus’s wife said.
And now Soupolos is suing Maus to get his money back; but Maus claims he never guaranteed results, only that he’d give it his best effort. Which apparently he did.

Well, I guess that sort of explains why Mrs. Maus wasn’t too put out about Mr. Maus earning a bit on the side.
Yet another example of “weird stories from Germany” for which a quick search produces any number of sources, but only English-language ones. This does not (necessarily) mean that these are cases of “invented” journalism, it may just be that German news media are respecting domestic privacy laws, whereas English tabloids (being outside the reach of the law) have no need to respect anything.
It does seem to have the “flavor” of a made up story, kind of like the guy who supposedly was at his work desk for days before anyone noticed he was dead.
I could swear I’ve heard this one before.
The story’s from 2009, so it’s quite probable you have.
I’d really like to know the outcome of that court case though.
I first heard this on the televesion show “Real People” back in the 70′s so it’s been around for quite a while.
72 attempts in 6 months… sounds like his best effort to me!
I remember reading a similar story back in the late sixties or early seventies in a regular newspaper(not a tabloid).
I have heard this before, and I think it was before 2009. I think it may have been in the Weekly World News a decade or more ago. It’s their kind of story (the big stories at the tops of the pages were fictional, but the smaller articles were usually this kind of weird news reported elsewhere, if not thoroughly fact checked).
This story was read on Real People, the 70s TV show. It wasn’t Germans, then, though.
No doubt similar lawsuits have taken place before. What drew me to this one was the neighbor being sterile a well.
