At a National Rifle Association meeting this past weekend, outspoken conservative singer Ted Nugent announced that if Barack Obama is re-elected as president in November “I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
The Secret Service is planning to have a talk with him — rightfully so, because that’s pretty much what people remembered Leon Czolgosz having said.
What’s troubling — and should be troubling for Americans on both sides of the cavernous political divide — is that the NRA saw no problem with putting the comment on their web site (see below). It’s not clear whether a single member approached Nugent afterward and said “Dude, we don’t like the guy either; but you might want to tone it down a notch,” or even “You know, when liberals want to portray us all as right-wing wackos, this is the sort of thing that gives them ammunition.”
Nugent later elaborated that his comments were about taking back “our American dream from the corrupt monsters in the federal government under this administration and [Obama's] communist czars.”
